Generally it takes about 90 days to process a claim on benefits for either Social Security Disability Insurance or Supplemental Security Income.  The reason why the process takes so long as a whole is that many people end up getting denied on their first time through the system and then they end up going back through the system again on appeal.  Appeals can make the process take up to two years, depending on the place in the country where you live.  The states that have higher unemployment rates do tend to have a longer wait time to receive benefits.
